Going Gluten Free
Posted in General Ramblings, London Marathon 2013 on 06/14/2012 06:18 pm by adminAfter yet another doctors appointments and more daft blood tests, I have now been advised to go gluten free for a minimum of 6 weeks. This is to rule out an intollerance before being sent to a specialist. I’ve also been given some anti-spasm medicine for my tummy to make it stop hurting and bloating… Painting an attractive picture here aren’t I!
One thing I noticed when researching gluten free foods – it’s in everything! Go and look at the back of the most random object, and there it’ll be… There are the obvious ones like bread and pasta, but things like pre-cooked chicken (you know, the flavoured ones you can buy) contain it.
Shopping for gluten free foods is easier thanks to some supermarkets having it in a designated area – but it’s not a massive selection! And also – Look at the bloody prices! £2 for half a loaf of bread! Don’t even get me started on the price of biscuits!!!
Here’s my local selection from the supermarket… Thank god for http://www.glutenfreefoodproducts.co.uk/ as they have a much wider variety of foods at better prices. For now…
So long fajitas, yorkshire puddings, cous cous, gravy and all my other gluten filled favourites. I’ll see you on the other side (I hope)

Hi,
I moderate a Facebook group for people with Coeliac Disease or those following a gluten-free diet called ‘Gluten Free and Me’ – https://www.facebook.com/groups/glutenfreeandme/. We are a ‘self-help’ group of like-minded (or should that be ‘bloody-minded’?!) people offering a place to rant, scream, shout and generally moan about being on a gf diet. Come and have a look at us and join in the fun of being a gluten-freaker!!
Best regards
Debra Samuel
Hannah, “So long fajitas, yorkshire puddings, cous cous, gravy and all my other gluten filled favourites……..” ABSOLUTELY NOT! AFraid it is goodbye to the couscous but try www, mexgrocer for tortillas and get the Discovery pouch fajita sauce, Yorkshire puds, get the frozen DS ones or make your own – pm me for a recipe, gravy- get Bisto best in a jar or make your own with GF flour or cornfour, again pm for recipes if you’re stuck. GF isn’t that difficult if you are eating at home and just get used to what you can eat. There is a group on Facebook called gluten free and me where you will get loads of info – don’t despair!
My neighbour says Sainsburys has a really good range at the moment of gluten free stuff. All sorts of things gluten eaters take for granted! The choice has widened massively recently!
I can recommend the gressingham ham duck sausages from tesco that are gluten free too!
