Bsc Geology and Science Communication, 2:2 Honours Degree. Royal Holloway, University of London. Egham, Surrey.
My degree involved studying the Earth and the processes that make it work in the way it does, for my final year my modules included Palaeontology, mineral resources and aqueous geology. One quarter of my degree was based on science communication, which involved studying the different types of media that can be used to promote and discuss science. Through this course I learnt skills in all areas of writing, producing, and editing both film and TV. I also learnt how to write articles and press releases. Website design, presentations, lectures and many other types of the media were also studied. For my final project I created a part-works magazine for children on the Earth. I designed and wrote all aspects of the project, and even planned a TV campaign to launch the publication. I attained a first for my science communication course.
